The Bookings Department for group visits and participation in the Prehistory workshops. This department is at schools' disposition to help in planning their visit and making it more successful.

Welcoming visitors

Guides

Once at the Museum, our staff is available to school groups to guide them in the organisation of their visit, show them how to form the groups and enter the New Cave and the Exhibition rooms in the Museum, and how to take part in the Prehistory Workshops.

Visit Plan

Either with your Reservation Sheet or on your arrival at the museum, Altamira Museum will provide each school with a Visit Plan. This gives full details about our suggestions for your stay at the museum. When you arrive at Altamira Museum, you will be given your exact times for entering the New Cave. The pupils and teachers will be organised in small groups for a more enjoyable and useful visit.

Visiting the New Cave and the Permanent Exhibition

The visit to the New Cave is with guides, in groups of twenty, and takes approximately 30 minutes. The visit to the other rooms in the exhibition may be alone or guided. The guided visit takes approximately 40 minutes. If required, you should ask for this when you book your visit to the museum.

Museum Services

Car Park

Altamira Museum has a special parking area for coaches and buses. We recommend that groups leave their bags on the coaches for a more comfortable visit.

Self-service Lockers

Museum visitors should leave coats, umbrellas and any other packages in the lockers located in the museum entrance hall.

Open-air picnic area for free use

In the area around the museum, there is a space outside the cafeteria where you may have snacks and drinks. At the moment this is in the open air. We request teachers and other people responsible for the school groups to use this area correctly and help to keep it clean. Other school groups will be grateful.

Cafeteria-restaurant

If your group would like to have lunch in the museum restaurant, you should reserve this directly with the restaurant management on 942 84 02 94.

Park area with paper baskets, benches and water taps

You can walk around the grassland and woodland surrounding the museum, where a number of paths take you near to Altamira Cave.
